Hello, I hope July was a good month and that August is treating you well. Here are a few short pieces of lively wisdom for you. It should take you no longer than five to ten minutes to read; a perfect excuse for a short break. Have fun in August, Mark . I CAN IMPROVE YOUR BOTTOM LINE. Of course I can't, only you can do that. However, I could help you find new ways of thinking that will have a direct impact on your business profit. I know from experience that owner manager businesses, small businesses and large corporates all run more profitably when the people within them run more effectively. You may recognise this yourself - I bet you have had times when have you felt lethargy that is preventing positive progress? Some... times... it just doesn't feel right to pick up the phone.... SIGH...! Hey, I know. I've been there. And I now know the culprits that were within me. I can help you find yours too. I can help you find a direct correlation between your personal coaching (and others in your business) and your bottom line. I'll discover these with you FREE of charge and with NO OBLIGATION. Go on pick-up the phone to me or drop me an email. It might be the last time you ever have this feeling! HOW TO WOW YOUR MANAGER OR CLIENT WITH YOUR EFFECTIVENESS Isn't it frustrating when you are working your socks off and nobody seems to notice. Well, maybe you are sending them the wrong messages. The next time you interact with your manager or client ask questions like the following to start building a sense of what tells them that you are doing a good job: "When we are performing well, what do you see?" "When morale is high, what lets you know?" On other occasions, when you notice that your manager or client responds well to your or others efforts, ask yourself what message he would have received. What did he or she see or hear? Paying attention like this will help you learn the types of events that people respond to in order to determine whether their needs are met or not. You may be surprised to hear that most people have no more than seven of these events. Learning what they are will help you hit the right message home. In NLP we call these Complex Equivalences and they are the "When you do this, it means this" relationship between external event and internal meaning. When you elicit them ask only 'What' questions relating to external events. 'Why', 'How' and 'If' questions will lead you somewhere else and that is for another day. There is also one other thing to be aware of and that is a Meta-Program called the Convincer. This is how many times someone needs to receive a particular message before being convinced of its 'meaning'. All this 'external event->internal meaning' stuff goes on outside of consciousness and the effect that you can have on people can be quite astounding. Have fun getting the recognition that you deserve for your efforts from now on. Imagine two situations; 1) finding £1000, that is yours to keep with no strings attached and 2) earning £1000 through hard-work. I'm curious - is there any difference between the value of them? Do you consider one to be worth more than the other? Is there any difference in how you would spend them? Are they different to you in some way? You can do exactly the same thing with them. I wonder if you really would. Well if you do attach a different value to them you could be missing out; read on to learn how to get more for free! My point in all this questioning is that if we only value the 'things' that we have to work hard for there is a danger that the 'things' that we can have with ease just pass us by - they are unvalued and do not grab our attention. These 'things' are not just money of course but skills, knowledge, relationships to name a few; they are all valuable assets. The secret of success is to consider this all in two parts: 1) the value of it - that is how well it meets your needs, not just monetary value. This applies whether it was easy to come by or not.
You see, it is worth the same whether you had to acquire new skills or resources to get it or rely on the existing (carefully honed) ones that you take for granted. How about if, from now on, you recognise what you have for what it is worth and separately for what it took to achieve it. Seeing it as two parts will open your awareness to the things that you can have that are already available to you without effort. When you see yourself making these changes and getting different results be sure to thank yourself. Your mind wants to please you and likes gratitude. In return it will do it all the more for you. Enjoy getting richer! ESSENTIAL SKILLS FOR THE 21st CENTURY MANAGER It is common knowledge that in the UK important management skills are not taught or practiced as well as they could be, leaving managers at all levels struggling with a variety of people issues including unresolved conflicts, under performance, poor communication, occupational stress and near negliable work-life balance.
